#1959 The Rise of Orion

I’m typing this at 10:04 p.m. on a Friday night.

I’m in my hotel in Athens.

The Wifey and the kids are asleep and I am reflecting on an extraordinary week we just spent with nearly 200 members of our Heroic community.

I’ll chat about some details in future +1s.

For now, I want to chat about what I saw as I stepped onto the balcony to soak in the sounds of the Aegean Sea and the beauty of this seaside town.

As I looked up at the beautiful night sky, I saw the constellation Orion rising from the east.

I smiled as I thought of the fact that it was the ancient Greeks who looked up from the same spot at the same stars and named that constellation and gave us the myth to tell the story of the great hunter in the sky.

Then…

I thought of the great Heroic hunter in my life whose radiant light and power is rising: our beloved Heroic President & Head Coach Michael Balchan.

Michael has been effectively running the business for the last few years and it has been extraordinarily inspiring to see him do so with more and more skill and power.

I’ve always known that I’ve wanted to find a capable leader to run our business as the CEO of Heroic to allow me to fully step into my commitment to lead our Heroic movement from the philosophical side of things.

I thought we’d make that transition in the next 1-2-3 years but with everything going on in the world and our desire to forge antifragile velocity with our Public Benefit Corporation, earlier this week we decided to accelerate that process.

I am incredibly excited to let you know that Michael will be stepping into the role of Heroic CEO & Head Coach while I will be stepping into the role of Heroic Chairman & Philosopher in Residence.

Just typing that makes my soul smile.

I am so proud of Michael and so thrilled to have his partnership in helping us fulfill our Mission.

And…

That’s what I was thinking about as I listened to the waves crash outside Athens and imagined those ancient citizens looking up at the night sky and admiring their powerful hunter.

It’s Day 1.

We’re ALL IN on doing EVERYTHING we can to serve our all-time favorite Hero…

YOU.

All day.

Every day.

P.P.S. After drafting that note, I turned my phone back on and sent it to Michael.

He had just sent me a half a dozen texts on how we can serve our corporate partners.

We shared a sacred virtual moment together then he told me he stepped outside and snapped a picture of the Hunter and sent me this one the following morning at 4am as he and his beautiful family were heading to the airport.
