In our last +1, we talked about adding a To-Be List to go with your To-Do List.
But, you know what? We should really start with our To-Be List and then throw out the To-Do List—replacing that one with a Success List.
That’s what Gary Keller tells us in his great book The ONE Thing.
In his words: “To-do lists tend to be long; success lists are short. One pulls you in all directions; the other aims you in a specific direction. One is a disorganized directory and the other is an organized directive. If a list isn’t built around success, then that’s not where it takes you. If your to-do list contains everything, then it’s probably taking you everywhere but where you really want to go.”
What do YOU have?
A laundry list of things you think you “need” to get done that’ll lead you to feeling overwhelmed or a super-focused list of important things that’ll lead you to true success?
Well, which one do you have? 😃
To answer that question, you need to get REALLY (!) clear on what’s REALLY (!) important. And then organize your entire life around those things.
So…
What’s REALLY (!) important for you?
One way to get some clarity on this is to revisit our Big 3 +1: Energy + Family + Service.
A great day includes rocking our #1 most important activity in each of those three domains.
For me, that means I focus on my most important creative project. I train. And I spend quality time with my family.
In short: Deep Work. Trail Work. Deep Love.
That’s a very simple Success List. On my Masterpiece Days, I check those boxes early in the day so I’ve already had an epic day by the end of breakfast. (Hah.)
Today’s +1. What’s a Successful day look like for you?
What ONE Thing would you do Energy wise? Family wise? Service wise?
Throw away the To-Do List. Make a Success List.
Check the boxes. Create another simple yet epic Masterpiece Day.
