Today’s wisdom is from Motivation and Personality by Abraham Maslow. (I’ve got him up on my wall, one of my all-time favorite teachers. This book is phenomenal!)
Abraham Maslow teaches us: “What a person can be, they must be.”
Self-actualization (which is a phrase he invented)—realizing your full potential—isn’t just for a select few. It’s a journey we all can take by meeting our basic needs and striving for growth.
Here’s how to move toward self-actualization today:
1. Meet Your Fundamental Needs. Those basic needs, Maslow says: “Fulfillment starts with securing safety, connection, and esteem.” Address one basic need today, like rest or connection.
2. Pursue Growth. He tells us: “Growth requires stepping outside your comfort zone.” So take one small step toward a challenging goal today.
3. Live Authentically. “Self-actualization is about becoming who you truly are.” Align one action today with your core values.
With all that in mind…
What’s one step you can take toward your self-actualization, today?
I would encourage you to consider including checking out the Philosopher’s Note on Motivation and Personality. I absolutely love Abraham Maslow, I hope you enjoy the notes.
