In our last +1, we talked about the etymology of the word dominate. Recall, it comes from the Latin “to rule.” I like that. Let’s rule our lives with strong self-mastery.
A couple +1s back we talked about me dominating my kitchen. Although I didn’t mention it, dominating my kitchen obviously includes dominating my dishes. And, any time I think of doing the dishes I think of Byron Katie.
Byron Katie? (Hah.) Yah. Byron Katie.
Katie has a process she calls “doing the dishes.” Basic idea: She says that “We never receive more than we can handle, and there is always just one thing to do.”
Dishes need to be done? Do them.
Phone call needs to be made? Make it.
+1 needs to be written? Write it.
There’s always just one thing to do. We just need to slow down, step back, ask ourselves what that next most important thing is and THEN DO IT. With a smile. With the calm confidence that life is just fine and all we have to do is string together enough moments of doing our best to do some REALLY great stuff. And, of course, as we focus on doing that one thing as well as we can, we tend to feel pretty great as well.
So…
Back to our dishes.
How’re yours?
I say we dominate them today Byron Katie style.
Then have fun “doing the proverbial dishes” all day every day. Chop wood. Carry water. Do the dishes. Repeat.
btw: One more time: “If you are powerful, you will dominate your life.”
