In our last +1, we talked about the power of blissipline. Bliss + Discipline = Boom!
When I think about bringing discipline to our lives (and to our spiritual practices), I immediately think of S.N. Goenka. For anyone who has attended his 10-day silent Vipassana meditation (aka a 10-day bootcamp for your mindfulness!), you know it’s impossible to forget his lyrical words of wisdom (note: you need to imagine Goenka saying this with a beautiful, lyrical Burmese accent):
“Work diligently. Diligently. Work patiently and persistently. Patiently and persistently. And you’re bound to be successful. Bound to be successful.”
I don’t know how many times I heard his recorded voice say that during the retreat Alexandra and I did together over a decade ago but it was a LOT.
“Work diligently. Diligently. Work patiently and persistently. Patiently and persistently. And you’re bound to be successful. Bound to be successful.”
Now, Goenka would say that during our hour-long meditation sessions and he was referring to the importance of working diligently, patiently and persistently to cultivate a strong mind via our meditation practice, but, of course, the same rules apply to ALL aspects of our lives.
“Work diligently. Diligently. Work patiently and persistently. Patiently and persistently. And you’re bound to be successful. Bound to be successful.”
Today’s +1. Quick inventory.
How’s your diligence?
How’s your patience?
How’s your persistence?
And, what’s one little thing you can do to incrementally Optimize just a little more today?
“Work diligently. Diligently. Work patiently and persistently. Patiently and persistently. And you’re bound to be successful. Bound to be successful.”
