In our last couple +1s, we’ve been soaking our souls in some wisdom from Stephen Cope’s The Great Work of Your Life.
Today we’re going to talk about prayer.
Specifically, making our WORK our prayer.
Even more specifically, let’s talk about how Susan B. Anthony approached it.
Stephen tells us: “When Susan B. Anthony was once asked, ‘Do you pray?’ she responded, ‘I pray every second of my life; not on my knees but with my work. My prayer is to lift women to equality with men. Work and worship are one with me.’”
Reminds me of Kahlil Gibran’s wonderful wisdom. He tells us that “Work is love made visible.”
In fact, he goes so far as to say: “And if you can’t work with love, but only with distaste, it is better that you should leave your work and sit at the gate of the temple and take alms of the people who work with joy.”
That’s Today’s +1.
How can you make your love a little more visible through your work today?
Seriously.
Pause for a moment.
Step back.
See the opportunities to make your work a deep expression of your love for the world, the people with whom you work and the people you’re blessed to serve.
Here’s to making our work and worship the same thing.
Sending love as I do my work.
🙏
