In our last +1, we spent some more time with Admiral McRaven and invited Rocky to the party (via Desmond Clark) to share his wisdom on the fact that life will (inevitably!) knock us down and that it’s all about having the courage to GET BACK UP.
Again.
And again.
And again.
As I typed that out, I thought of Grit researcher Angela Duckworth who tells us: “There’s an old Japanese saying: ‘Fall seven, rise eight.’ If I were ever to get a tattoo, I’d get these four simple words indelibly inked.”
So…
We ended that +1 by reminding ourselves that we’re going to get knocked down.
Then I encouraged us to get back up.
Stronger than ever.
With a fierce resolve to be our best in our darkest moments as we give our families, communities and world all we’ve got.
As it turns out, I was channeling some McRaven with those last words.
In fact, Lesson #8 in his great book Make Your Bed is called “Rise to the Occasion.”
He tells us: “At some point we will all confront a dark moment in life. If not the passing of a loved one, then something else that crushes your spirit and leaves you wondering about your future. In that dark moment, reach deep inside yourself and be your very best.”
That’s Today’s +1.
Facing a dark moment?
We need you to reach inside yourself and be your very best.
TODAY.
