Today’s wisdom is from Rethinking Positive Thinking (One of my all time favorite books) by Gabriele Oettingen (one of my all time favorite positive psychologists)!

Gabriele reminds us: “Positive thinking alone isn’t enough. We need to combine optimism with realistic planning.”

Here’s how to turn dreams into action today:

1. Use the WOOP tool. One of my all-time favorite practices. I do it every single day.

Gabriele’s method is:

  • Wish: Define what you want.
  • Outcome: Imagine the benefits of achieving it.
  • Obstacle: Identify what might get in your way.
  • Plan: Decide how you’ll overcome the obstacle.

2. You have to Balance Optimism with Reality. She writes: “Focus on the challenges you’ll face, not just the success.”

3. You have to Take that First Step. “Action transforms dreams into reality.”
