We’ve talked a lot about the importance of making a strong commitment. We know that making a 100% commitment is, somewhat paradoxically, way easier than making a 90% or 95% or even a 99.9% commitment.
And…
Even with a super strong initial commitment, the fact is we’re going to fall short of the standards we set for ourselves.
Sad face.
What then?
Then we pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and RECOMMIT.
Again. And again. And again.
Think of it like this: Imagine an airplane. Let’s say we’re flying from Los Angeles to Tokyo. The pilots have (obviously) made a 100% commitment to getting us there. But guess what?
Although they have clarity on their ultimate destination and they’re committed to getting there, they’re also OFF TRACK most of the trip. The wind blows them a little this way. They drift a little that way. No big deal. Slight adjustment. Back on track. Again and again and again.
That’s how we want to be.
Step 1. Get clear on where we’re headed. We’ve gotta know our destination so we can fulfill our destiny.
Step 2. Commit. 100%. (Provided it passes your WOOP test, of course! Otherwise, keep WOOPing till you arrive at something worthy of your commitment!)
Step 3. Take action. A lot of it. Consistently. Diligently. And persistently.
Step 4. Recommit when you inevitably lose that initial burst of commitment.
Again and again and again.
Today’s +1: Where you headed? You committed? Taking action? Need to recommit a little more today?
btw: The best way to affirm that re-commitment? Action. Always.
+1. +1. +1.
