In our last +1, we had fun with a new Latin phrase introduced to us by Harvey Dorfman: Carpe momentum.
Seize the moment! How? By executing the task at hand. And, in the process, create some powerful momentum.
In his epic tome on Coaching the Mental Game, Dorfman walks us through the A to Z of getting mentally tough. (He prefers to call it “mentally disciplined.”)
R is for Relentlessness.
As in, I just don’t quit. Here’s how Dorfman puts it: “Relentlessness is the reciprocal of quitting— yielding — giving up. It is an aggressive, persistent, attack-mode attitude. It defines a warrior. The relentless performer gives himself intensely, entirely, and constantly to competition.”
To bring the point home, he drops another Latin phrase on us.
Percussus resurgo.
“Struck down, I rise again!”
That makes me think of Mrs. Science of Grit, Angela Duckworth. I think she might like that as a potential second tattoo. Here’s what she has to say: “There’s an old Japanese saying: ‘Fall seven, rise eight.’ If I were ever to get a tattoo, I’d get these four simple words indelibly inked.”
Percussus resurgo.
“Struck down, I rise again!” And again.
Today’s +1. Anything knock you down lately?
Percussus resurgo.
RISE. With a gritty, undefeated, indefatigable warrior spirit.
RISE. Again. And again. And again.
