In our last +1, we talked about a word Aristotle coined to capture that Life Force within each of us (and everything) that pushes us (and everything else) from potentiality to actualization. He called it “entelechy.”
Today, we’re going to talk about another word coined by a more modern lover of wisdom, Wayne Dyer. Dyer once playfully coined the word “musterbation” (laughing) which captures the essence of doing things because you (insert whiny voice here) “have to.”
“I must do this.” “I must do that.”
Enter: Musterbation!
Which reminds me of a Tony Robbins line that we need to quit “should-ing on” ourselves.
“I should do this.” “I should do that.” It’s all “should, should, should.”
Tony’s perspective: Do something or don’t do it, but quit shoulding on yourself. (It’s stinky!)
Today’s +1. Are you, um, musterbating a little too much? (Private question, I know, but that’s what I’m here for!)
And, are you shoulding on yourself a little too much these days as well?
Remember: Lovers of wisdom do nothing reluctantly. If anything is worth doing, let’s do it with all our hearts!
P.S. Seneca puts it this way: “There is nothing the wise man does reluctantly.” While the Buddha says: “If anything is worth doing, do it with all your heart.”
