#1928 Memorizing First-Aid Instructions

vs. Giving First Aid

In our last +1, we spent another moment with Steven Hayes.

As you may recall, we discussed his wisdom on moving from Theory to Practice (you understand… NOW PRACTICE!) with some Donald Robertson wisdom (quit being a librarian… be a warrior!) along with some Musonius Rufus wisdom on the subject.

(Note: I smile any time I type “Musonius Rufus.” That’s hands down the best name ever. 🤣)

Today I want to talk about ANOTHER “Theory to Practice” metaphor I always think of when I’m thinking about these things.

It’s from another somewhat obscure teacher who taught a couple thousand years after Musonius Rufus. (Smiled again typing that. Hah.)

This guy’s name is Vernon Howard.

He wrote a book called The Power of Your Supermind.

In that book he tells us: “You see, knowing the words is not the same thing as living the meaning. Suppose I memorize the printed instructions on a first-aid kit. Does that mean I can give first aid? No. The full meaning comes when I admit I know nothing and then try, practice, succeed.”

And…

That’s Today’s +1.

Have you memorized the first-aid kit instructions?

Awesome.

Now…

Can you give (world-class!) first aid to yourself and your loved ones when you and they need it?

Awesome.

Remember…

“When someone is in distress, the best compassion you can give is to be effective in helping them.”

Here’s to moving from Theory to Practice to Mastery together…

TODAY.
