In our last +1, we continued our exploration of Marsha Linehan’s Dialectical Behavior Therapy as we talked about the four categories of skills and how to get through hell.
The quick recap…
First, the four categories of skills include: Mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.
And…
We talked about the fact that “If you want to get out of hell, you have to get through the fire to the other side.”
When I read that passage, I thought of Winston Churchill and David Goggins.
Now…
Here’s the Winston Churchill wisdom gem that came to mind when I read that: “If you’re going through hell, keep going.”
And, here’s the David Goggins wisdom gem that also came to mind: “When you’re climbing a mountain or involved in any other difficult task, the only way to free yourself from the struggle is to finish it. So why bitch about it when it gets hard? Why hope it will end soon when you know it will end eventually? When you complain and your mind starts groping for the eject button, you are not bringing your best self to the task, which means you are actually prolonging the pain.”
That’s Today’s +1.
Going through hell?
Say “BRING IT ON!”
And…
“Keep going through the pain.”
“It isn’t overnight that you are going to feel better.”
“But you will.”
