Today’s Daily Wisdom comes from Deep Work by Cal Newport.
Cal defines deep work as: “Professional activities performed in a state of distraction-free concentration that push your cognitive capabilities to their limit.”
In an age of constant distractions, deep work is your edge. It’s how you create high-value work and strengthen your skills.
Here’s how to cultivate deep work today:
First, focus on what’s wildly important. Newport says: “The more you try to do, the less you actually accomplish.” Choose one goal to focus on today.
Next, build routines for focus. He reminds us: “Move beyond good intentions and add routines and rituals to your working life.”
And finally, eliminate attention residue. Newport warns: “Avoid switching between tasks. Focus deeply on one thing at a time.”
So… What’s one thing you can do to cultivate more deep work in your life today?
