In our last +1, we jumped inside Stephen Covey’s big “No” waste paper basket. Right along with Peter Drucker and his.
Today I want to talk about another time management wisdom gem from Covey.
In 7 Habits he poses this question: “If you were to fault yourself in one of three areas, which would it be: (1) the inability to prioritize; (2) the inability or desire to organize around those priorities; or (3) the lack of discipline to execute around them? … Most people say their main fault is a lack of discipline. On deeper thought, I believe that is not the case. The basic problem is that their priorities have not become deeply planted in their hearts and minds. They haven’t really internalized Habit 2 [Begin with the end in mind].”
That’s Today’s +1.
Let’s take the Covey Quiz.
If you were to fault yourself in one of three areas, which would it be?
1. The inability to prioritize?;
2. The inability to organize around those priorities?; or,
3. The lack of discipline to execute around them?
As Covey says, most people think they lack the discipline.
When, in fact, on deeper probing, we may learn that the issue isn’t discipline per se, it’s the fact that our most (wildly!) important priorities have not become planted deeply enough in our hearts and minds.
So…
What are your most Wildly Important SOUL Goals, my dear friend?
Let’s plant those seeds DEEPLY.
And go bring them to life.
