My 1,000-second timer went off about 90 seconds before I started typing this.
It’s 7:15 in the morning.
I had just finished my hour of meditation and 10 minutes of pre-Deep Work goodness that included re-committing to my Sacred Vow to and re-connecting with our investors (bless you all again!), and doing a quick strategic journaling session on our current Top 3 targets for 2023 to take the next steps in fulfilling our Heroic Mission of creating a world in which 51% of humanity is flourishing by the year 2051.
Then I opened up Mel Robbins’ book The High 5 Habit. I was a few pages in when my 1,000-second Timex timer went off.
As you know if you’ve been following along, that is my prompt/cue/trigger to stand up and, if I haven’t done 100+ burpees yet, bang out a set of 11 burpees.
So, that’s what I did.
As I did it, Nietzsche’s wisdom popped into my head.
In Thus Spoke Zarathustra, he tells us: “He who cannot command himself should obey. And many can command themselves, but much is still lacking before they can obey themselves.”
Which is why, as I banged out my set of 11 burpees, I silently chanted to myself:
“COMMAND and OBEY.”
“COMMAND and OBEY.”
“COMMAND and OBEY.”
And…
That’s Today’s +1.
It’s one thing to tell ourselves to do something.
It’s an entirely different and infinitely more important thing to actually DO that thing.
Which is why Nietzsche also said: “Will—that is the name of the liberator and the joy bringer.”
Mastering our will is the ONLY possible way we can achieve another one of his dictums: “I must perfect myself.”
So…
What’s ONE thing you KNOW you could be doing that, if you started doing it consistently, would most positively impact your life?
Got it?
Awesome.
It’s time to commit to it.
And…
Much more importantly…
It’s time to DO IT.
It’s time to Command AND Obey.
Here’s to perfecting ourselves and remembering that will is the name of the liberator and the joy bringer.
Let’s move from Theory to Practice to Mastery.
Together.
