#633 Burning a Hole Through Your #1 Goal

In our last +1, we talked about planting our most important seeds in the spots that get the most sun. (Quick check in: Are YOUR most important goal-seeds getting the best energy from you on a consistent basis?!)

Today I want to spend another moment in our backyard and talk a little more about focus.

Many moons ago, in the context of the Psychology of Utter Commitment, we busted out a magnifying glass to demonstrate Alexander Graham Bell’s wisdom: “Concentrate all your thoughts upon the work at hand. The sun’s rays do not burn until brought to a focus.”

The other day, Emerson and I (and mommy!) had fun bringing that wisdom to life again. It’s a REALLY powerful metaphor. If you’ve never actually used a magnifying glass to burn a hole through a leaf or a lemon (our object of choice!), I HIGHLY recommend the experience.

Once again, just like that packet of golden seeds, all the potential energy is there. But, alas, the conditions need to be right for that potential energy to be realized.

In this case, the sun’s rays need to be FOCUSED if we want to HARNESS that energy.

As Emerson and I moved the magnifying glass around to find the right angle and position to bring that diffuse energy into a sharp focus, I could feel the parallel power (or lack thereof) in our lives.

Are you clear on that and going after it with laser-like focus? Or are your goals kinda sorta fuzzy and your focus diffused in the whirlwind of distractions?

Let’s get clear on what key things will make a difference in our lives. And then FOCUS our energy on that most (wildly!) important goodness.
